A group of students based in Dehradun are initiating to expand the recycling service in the city. A group named ‘AVscrappers’ has volunteers who give free door to door service to the people and collect waste items or goods for donation.
Informing the media at a press conference on Monday, a member of the group Ankit Mamgain said, “We all are students and are keen to do something for society. An idea came to us to do something regarding recycling and donation. We started to give free door to door services in which our team collected recycling products like newspapers, e-waste, batteries and others. We also collected books and old clothes and other things to donate to the people in need.”
The team of Avscrappers not just collects scrap but also cigarette butts. As per the information by the group member one cigarette butt takes nine years to decompose. “There are many products which look like scrap to us, but we can always make something out of it. For instance, residuals of cigarettes make many things which we use in our daily life,” he added.
After working for three months, the team has launched the service online as well as offline. The services will be provided within the five kilometres of the Survey Chowk.
Ankit said, “We have noticed that people want to donate things but due to time problem, they fail to do so which is why we have launched an online portal.
The service will be provided to every part of the city and our vision is to reach to the various districts so that we become number one State in recycling.”
