Students differ on stir mode; college extends winter break

The unity forged between different student unions of DAV College on the issue of evening classes failed to last long as these unions are now taking separate paths of agitation on the issue.

The college administration meanwhile has declared winter vacations in the college which after closure for three days was scheduled to open on Monday. Principal of College Dr Devendra Bhasin said that vacations would be from December 22 to January 5. On Sunday evening, the DAV College students union protested against delay in start of evening classes by lighting candles at the main gate of the college but the absence of NSUI and Aryan group left a conspicuous among the students. On Saturday, on the issue of burning of effigy of State Government, heated verbal duels occurred between the leaders of student unions.

The NSUI, which is a student wing of the Congress protested against the burning of effigy by the ABVP dominated student union. The different student unions of the college started a joint agitation for the evening classes on December 16 when six students scaled the mobile towers but now the oblivious political compulsions have parted their ways.

The leaders of NSUI are demanding resignation of college Principal while ABVP is refraining from asking the resignation of Bhasin. The president of student Union of DAV College Paras Goyal told The Pioneer that the ABVP only wants that the future of thousands of students is not ruined and for this it is struggling to start the evening classes. He said that the party is not against any one particular individual and is of the opinion that the State Government and College management are responsible for the current mess regarding the evening classes.

The leader of NSUI, Mohan Bhandari said that since Principal is responsible for delay in admissions in the evening classes, he should either be removed or should resign from the post.
