Different student organisations are working in frantic pace these days to conquer the prestigious student union elections of DAV College. Though the college has made no formal declaration of the schedule of the elections yet it is expected that they would be organised on August 27-28.
All the political organizations of students worth their salt would swear that the election of the college which is the biggest college of the state is a litmus test of their grip over the students. It is worth mentioning here that the BJP’s student wing, ABVP has wrested the coveted position of President of the DAV College for last eight consecutive terms piping the rival NSUI (the student arm of Congress party) to the post. The last time the NSUI was able to capture this college was in the year 2006-7 when its candidate S S Pundeer defeated Jitendra Rawat of ABVP to became President. However ever since Jitendra Rawat defeated Manvendra Pratap Singh Bisht of NSUI next year to win the seat for ABVP it is a long and agonizing wait for the NSUI.
One of an independent observer commented that since NSUI is a divided house as compared with ABVP it would be very difficult for it to win elections unless it presents a united front. With both ABVP and NSUI yet to declare their candidates for the elections many hopefuls have started their informal campaign among the students. It was learnt that Rakesh Negi, Devi Bisht, Narendra Sharma and Sanjay Tomar are seeking ticket for President from ABVP this time while Mohan Bhandari, Saurabh Mamgain, Vikas Negi and Ayush Gupta have thrown their hats for the party ticket from NSUI.
A student group Yuva Bharat Samiti is also expected to throw its weight in the election of President with Vikas Pant and Nitin Ramola being the prospective candidates. For the post of General Secretary (GS) Sachin Thapliyal and Suraj Kohli are probable candidates from the Aryan group while Mahajan Singh is widely believed to the candidate from the Pattu group. The SFI would probably announce the name of Rakesh Chauhan while Satyam group is expected the name Suraj Ramola for the position of GS.
