The members of Shiksha Jansangharsh Abhiyan (SJA) staged a protest against the hegemony of private school owners at the office of district Magistrate here on Tuesday.

SJA is an association of twenty eight social and political organisations which have joined hands to put a united fight against the loot of private school owners.

The agitated members handed over a memorandum to the SDM in absence of district magistrate Ravi Nath Raman. The convener of the SJA and State President of Uttarakhand Mahila Manch (UMM), Kamla Pant said that the State Government is doing nothing to stop the private schools from arbitrarily increasing the fees every year.

She demanded that the State Government should impose an immediate moratorium on the fee increase of the private schools.

Pant said that at the same time the Government should take concrete measures to improve the condition of Government schools.

She said that there is a great resentment among the common people against the private schools and teaching and infrastructural facilities in the Government schools.

AAP leader Sanjay Bhatt said that to improve the condition of the Government schools, it should be made mandatory that all those who are drawing salary or other benefits from the Government treasury, should send their wards in the Government schools.

He said that the private schools are engaging in an open loot of the parents of the students.

The SJA was formed on March 17 by many outfits when its activists staged a Dharna outside the Vidhan Sabha.

The Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani had assured the delegation that Government would take action on the matter soon.

The activists had registered their protest at Gandhi Park and sat on a Dharna outside the residence of education minister last week.
