Stop demolition drive in slums: AAP

Published on:

Demanding demolition drive to be stopped  in the slum areas in Shishambara- recently launched by the district administration to  free such areas of illegal occupation,  scores of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) activists submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate at the collectorate on Friday.

Dehradun district AAP president Uma Sisodiya said after the memorandum was served that the demolition drive being launched by the administration negates human values aside from amounting to violation of the    constitutional provisions.  “The administration conducting such drives from time to time has left around 280 families from the socio- economically weaker sections of the society homeless,” she said, adding that such drives should be preceded by rehabilitation package for the affected.

She further said that such drives are being initiated to help the realtors take over such lands. “Things are strange as persons with ration cards and voter identity cards are being thrown out of the places they have been living in for years,” she said. Hitting out at both Congress and BJP, she said that they have promised them regularisation of their settlement to be followed by their huts being made pucca. “While the   AAP govt in  Delhi is regularizing slum areas and providing  the slum dwellers with pucca houses the  BJP-helmed  double engine govt is reducing such settlements to rubbles while cozying up to the greedy realtors,” the district AAP leader said.
