Stone laid for Balawali bridge is in rebel Champion's name

The politics over the unveiling of the foundation stone of Balawali bridge and dedicating it to the public has flared up. Plans were afoot to get it unveiled by CM Harish Rawat after the completion of the road but the former Congress turncoat legislator from Khanpur constituency, Kumwar Pranav Singh Champion dedicated it to the public on May 5. His supporters have put his name stone at the bridge.

Notably the road construction work at the newly constructed bridge built over the Ganga river is nearing completion and by June vehicular traffic shall begin on this route.

The erstwhile legislator from Khanpur had been making attempts for the past many years to get the bridge constructed for the ease of the people. Now a dispute has arisen over the dedication of the bridge in the changed political scenario of the State.

When quizzed, the new entrant to BJP, Pranav Singh Champion said, “My workers must have done it while I was away to Delhi. I have toiled for this bridge for 8 long years getting the proposal sanctioned from the Government worth 8.5 crores. I got the road revamped and it is my right to regulate it.”

The Congress workers were planning for the unveiling programme in the hands of the state CM but the supporters of Champion laid the black stone in Champion’s name and reportedly sent a letter to the State Government informing the same.
