The sit- in stir by Nagrik Kalyan Manch protesting against the crumbling medical facilities in the district hospital in Pauri has entered its sixth day on Tuesday. The demands of the agitating outfit include appointment of a permanent doctor in the hospital and prompt repair of the digital X-ray machine lying dysfunctional for over two years.
The sit-in had started on last Thursday and the agitators say that it would continue till their demands are met. Notably, the several other unions like Vypar Sabha and Retired Employees are lending support to the stir. The leaders of several political parties like Congress, BJP and Samajwadi Party are also turning up at the sit-in venue to lend support.
The stir has borne some fruits as one of the two doctors who were sent to the Joint Hospital at Srinagar for a fortnight at the instance of the minister and Srinagar MlA Dhan Singh Rawat to pacify the Pragati Sheel Manch, had returned to the district hospital in Pauri in the wake of the sit- in by Nagrik Kalyan Manch.
A member of the manch lalit Mohan Kothiyal claimed that their agitation is being supported by all the political parties aside from the traders’ fraternity and many others. “We are demanding appointments of a physician and a permanent surgeon in the district hospital. Besides, the digital X-ray machine which remains nearly dysfunctional for over two years must be repaired immediately. We would continue with the sit-on till the demands are met,” he said.
