While reviewing the performance of the Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday, the State Additional Director- General of Police (law and order), Ashok Kumar asked the STF officers to come down heavily on the members of around six gangs currently carrying out crimes in organised ways across the state.
He asked them to use the Gangster Act against those who, while on bail, engage in crimes. “Movements of those criminals who are on bail must be watched and if they are found indulging in crimes must face legal actions like attachment of properties,” he said. Among those present at the meeting were STF SSP Riddhim Aggarwal and additional SP Ajay Singh aside from inspectors and sub-inspectors.
Kumar said that several important decisions were taken to enhance the workings of STF and cyber crime police stations.
While asking the SIT officers to arrest the criminals against whom bounty amount has been declared, he stressed on coordination between STF and Special Operation Group (SOG). Coordination between SOG and STF is a must to stamp out organised crimes in the State, he said, adding coordination meeting at district level should be held every month and he himself would convene such meeting quarterly to boost the coordination between two police units.
Statistics reveals that members of hard core criminal gangs, including Sunil Rathi gang and Cheenu Pandit gang, are active in the State. Around six such gangs are active committing murder, dacoity and extortion among others.
Kumar also suggested raising the bounty amount on such criminals to make their arrests easier. There are 50 such criminals against whom bounty of `5,000 has been announced by the police, he said.
While expressing alarm over drug peddling luring the youngsters in its vicious grip, Kumar said that the menace must be stamped out by any means.
He also referred to the cyber crimes and asked the cyber crime police station officers to be more active in lodging FIRs if the complainants relate to ATM, bank frauds and social networking sites.
