A cluster of latest software will track down the cyber criminals from their hideouts in neighbouring States. Sounds strange, but this is a fact. The cluster will help Special Task Force (STF) in locating the hideouts of the cyber criminals. Starting process for it, STF is equipping it with the cluster of latest software, specially meant to track down records and analysing data making, by making its own hi-tech cyber cell.
The software’s cluster would be installed in the cell which would have at least five computers. The cell wound function under supervision of senior superintendent of police (SSP) STF. The cops, who underwent training in operating the software, would handle the cell. Five cops have already been imparted training to run the software.
In near future, around a dozen of STF sleuths would undergo training in operating the software. Cluster of the software includes Forensic Recovery Evidence Data (FRED), ip tracer, database, data analyser, software used for recovery of data from the systems and few others. The STF has already examined some of the software.
“We are in the process of setting up a high tech cyber cell which would be equipped with a cluster of the latest software. The software would help us in tracking down the criminals and checking the instances of cyber crimes,” SSP STF Senthil Akdai Krishanraj S said, adding that various tasks related to cell were on the verge of completion.
The cell would not only help in solving the cases related to cyber crimes but it would also help in checking the conventional crimes. The cell would also help the police in tracking down the criminals often hide them in the neighbouring or remote areas of the help since it would have the software those are capable of tracing various details.
Estimated cost of bringing up the lab would be around Rs 50 lakh, a source in the STF said, adding that order for the software and other paraphernalia is about to be placed. STF is in touch with the best software professionals for training to its staff in order to make comprehensive use of the cell.
Cyber cell would store all data related to cyber crimes took place and those were involved in the past in such offences. Once the cell comes up, sleuths would be in regular touch with their counterparts in neighbouring States, including Uttar Pradesh, Himachal and Punjab, sharing the inputs related with the cyber crimes.
A senior STF sleuth said that cell’s way of functioning would be different. It would work in high-tech manner. It would exchange data related to cyber offences with the neighbouring states, seeking help of their counterpart in tracking down the cyber criminals who commit cyber offences sitting away in other cities.
