In another important breakthrough, following close on the heels of the arrest of five notorious criminals, Special Task Force (STF), Uttarakhand has arrested a hardened criminal, carrying a cash prize on his head, from a flat in Ghaziabad on Monday evening.
The accused has been identified as Vikas Gupta, native of Prabhat Nagar, Civil line, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, said STF SSP Dr Sadanand Date on Tuesday. He was rounded up while he was absconding after committing some crimes in Haridwar and Dehradun districts, Date added.
In its continuing operation against the notorious criminals carrying cash prizes on their heads, STF police acted on a tip-off and arrested the accused from a flat in Mahalakshmi Tower in Kaushambhi, Indranagar, Ghaziabad on Monday evening.
Notably, the same unit achieved an important breakthrough on Sunday night after they nabbed five sharp-shooters working for the notorious gangster Sunil Rathi, who were given errands to bump off another gangster Cheenu Pandit, an arch rival of Rathi. The nabbed criminals were arms dealers, according to STF. Several firearms and caches of ammunition aside from some vehicles were recovered from those arrested.
SSP Date said that STF team comprising sub-inspectors Amar Chandra Sharma and Santosh Kumar Shah; constables Ashish Sharma and Sanjay Kumar from STF and Rajdeep Singh from Haridwar Police was formed to nab the criminal. The team members raided the flat and arrested the accused from it, he added.
It should be mentioned here that a case (FIR number-386/2006) under sections 420/406/467/468/471/120b of IPC had been registered against Vikas Gupta in Ranipur police station, Haridwar. Garhwal Range IG had announced bounty of `5,000 on his head on March 31, 2008. A case had also been registered against him in Patelnagar police station, Dehradun in 2003. The accused will be sent to Haridwar jail after being presented in the court, SSP added.
