The teachers training module will be developed for imparting quality education in government schools, said RK Kunwar, who has recently assumed charge as director of State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) and State Institute of Education Management and Training (SIEMAT).
Steps will be taken for restructuring of SCERT and establishment of Block Institute of Education and Training (BIET) to ensure all the teachers undergo departmental training programme annually, he added.
Kunwar said that SCERT facilitates and promotes the development of professional skills of various stakeholders. It offers academic support to other agencies in organising training programmes for teachers and trainers.
SCERT also organises evaluation programmes and undertakes research activities in the field of teacher training and quality elementary education and promotes co-ordination and linkages amongst various institutes involved in Teacher Education and Training.
He further said that need based training programme for teachers, educators and other functionaries will be developed and they will be trained at DIET. Emphasis will be laid on formative evaluation of the students through continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE). Different methods including periodic written test, oral test, observation, interview, practicals, projects, ranking and students’ profile will be included in CCE to improve their performance in board examination.
“Emphasis has been laid on the quality dimension of teachers’ training which is crucial for providing quality education in schools, he added.
“We are working on drafting training modules on programmes like CCE for teachers and teacher educators, learning enhancement programme for teachers to enhance quality education of students, leadership skill development among headmasters, refresher programme on teaching science, Mathematics, English and programme for teachers and teacher educators on innovative methods to develop teaching aids. Programmes for DIETs and Block Resource centres on effective training methodology have also been developed, he added.
Under SSA, around 60, 000 teachers are trained each year. A proposal for establishing CIET in the most educationally backward blocks will be sent to central government.
He further said that SIEMAT has been established for providing training to school principals, DIET principals, senior lecturers and assistant directors on capacity building, academic and financial management, managerial capacity building and leadership quality and others.
