To pressurise the State Government in support of their demands, Uttarakhand statehood agitationists under the banner of Uttarakhand Chinhit Rajya Aandolankari Sangathan tried to rally to the Chief Minister’s residence in Dehradunon Monday.

The protesters assembled at Parade Ground and rallied towards Chief Minister’s residence raising slogans against the Government for allegedly ignoring them. They were stopped at the barricading in Hathibarkala where they had heated arguments with the police. The protesters said that two statehood agitationists- Prakash Uniyal and Chintan Saklani have been sitting on hunger strike in support of identification of statehood agitationists at martyrs’ memorial in the Collectorate campus for the last eight days but Government has ignored them.

Pramila Rawat, one of the activists said that Government should identify statehood agitationists again so that those who had fought for the new State could get justice. “We will continue protesting in support of our demands unless they are met," she warned. It should be mentioned here that many statehood activists are demanding various benefits including Government jobs, free medical treatment, travel and other benefits for participating in the Statehood movement.
