Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre has forecast dip in mercury by two or three degrees for the next three consecutive days beginning from January 29 in the State, something that predicts that the New Year Eve night would be chilling cold in Dehradun as elsewhere.
However, with the relative increase in the maximum temperature due to sky being cloudy, there would be some respite from the cold wave condition prevailing across the State during these three days. The mornings would be a tad warmer, the weathermen say.
Met Director Bikram Singh said the maximum and minimum temperatures had slightly increased on Monday as compared to the previous few days.
He further said the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 25.2 degree Celsius and 8.6 degree Celsius in Dehradun while 18.4 degree Celsius and 8.4 degree Celsius in Tehri, 18.0 degree Celsius and 8.2 degree Celsius in Mukteshwar and 22.9 degree Celsius and 5.0 degree Celsius in Pantnagar on Monday.
The weather forecast for Uttarakhand on Tuesday is dry weather. Shallow fog/mist may occur at a few places in the plain districts. The weather forecast for Dehradun on Tuesday is mainly clear sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be hovering around 23 degree Celsius and 07 degree Celsius respectively in Dehradun that day.
The Met office has also forecast cloudy sky in the plain districts on December 31 while light rain/snow might occur in the high altitude regions.
Notably, the Met officials have predicted showers and snow starting from January 4 next. Singh had even hinted that Mussoorie might experience its maiden snowfall during that spell.
