The State Government would submit proposals worth Rs2,000 crore to the Union Government under Namami Gange project, said the Minister of Potable Water and Education Mantri Prasad Naithani while addressing newsmen on Thursday.

He said that the State Government has submitted Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the treatment plants at Joshimath, Gopeshwar, Srinagar, Gangnani, Kiritinagar and BHEl in Haridwar to the Union Government recently and the DPRs of Nandprayag, Karanprayag, Rishikesh, Muni Ki Reti and Dhalwala would be submitted in this month only.

Naithani said that in his recent meeting with Union Minister of Water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation Uma Bharati has assured full cooperation on clean Ganga mission. He informed that the union government has cleared Rs 900 crore under SWAP project for rejuvenating the water sources of the state. There are 17000 such sources which would be rejuvenated under the project by planting trees, digging small ponds (Chal Khal) and tapping the rain water. He said that the union government would release funds in four phases for the water source rejuvenation projects.

The minister claimed that this year less complaints of water scarcity were reported from rural areas. He said timely completion of many drinking water projects is the reason behind the success. The Minister said he was wrongly criticized for undertaking Jagdishila Doli Yatra in summers but it appears that the gods are kind enough and no water scarcity was witnessed this year.
