The State Government will make it mandatory to display traditional Kumaoni art- Aipan in all its offices across the State.  CM Harish Rawat issued this instruction while chairing a review meeting of the Tourism department here on Friday.

Rawat directed officials to prepare follow up plan for the Tehri and Jageshwar festivals and ensure returns and employment generation from investments made in the State’s tourism sector. He said that apart from Char Dham, Mussoorie and Nainital, the department should also focus on ‘new’locations and other avenues. Specialists should be involved for boosting winter tourism. Stating that about Rs 100 crore had been invested on Tehri, he said that the State should also get a return from this. Two schemes should be drafted- one for Tehri and the other for Chinyalisaud- linking the latter with Char Dham.

Rawat said that cleanliness should be ensured at Jageshwar and collaborative effort with forest department has be made to boost eco tourism based on the deodar jungles. Small check dams should also be constructed. He also directed officials to bring out a coffee table book on  unseen Himalayas and prepare a table of various fairs and events. An incentive scheme should be prepared for preservation of traditional architecture buildings in Jageshwar.
