Increasing cases of drug abuse, especially among the youth, are worrying society. Some reports revealed that the drug peddlers are supplying drugs around educational institutions, targeting college students, in particular, and the youth, in general. The police officers have been directed to show zero tolerance against such cases in the State, said BS Sidhu, State Director General of Police (DGP) in a seminar held at police line to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, here in Dehradun on Friday.
Sounding concerned over the drug menace spreading its tentacles across the society, the top cop of the State said highly qualified professionals aside  from the  youths  are indulging in it. Raising public awareness on drug abuse being  the principal tool of fighting the menace, the government agencies alone cannot do much, he said, adding that the  society as a whole must  come forward to stamp it out.   The police department is on its toes. It  has taken several measures to wipe it out. Drug peddlers are being  captured across the state. He appealed  to the residents to inform police if they come across any indulging in it. He lauded Dehradun police for launching Nai Zindigi operation against drug abuse.

Dehradun acclaimed as hub of education at national and international levels is falling prey to such a  destructive trend. large number of students from across the country comes here for education, but some of them are becoming drug abusers.  Parents should be  on their guard, the  DM said.

Under this operation, police not just are arresting  drug abusers and drug peddlers but are arranging counseling to the misguided youth who have fallen to the lure of drugs through doctors, councilors, psychologists to  help them turn over a new leaf, he said. Such youths are also advised to go for rehabilitation cetnre to rid of the menace.
State Additional Director General of Police (Administration) Ram Singh Meena, SP Traffic PK Rai, CO Manoj Katiyal and hundreds of policemen and members of various Government departments and non-governmental  organisations were present in the seminar.
