The Uttarakhand State police declared the results of the ranker’s examination for the promotion of constables and head constables to 279 out of 304 posts of sub-inspectors on Thursday. The results for remaining 25 posts of sub-inspectors will be declared after the High Court clears it.

The six-month training programme for selected candidates would begin from January 9 at Police Training College (PTC), Narendra Nagar. However, they will be deputed to the Ardh Kumbh Mela on special occasions when lakhs of pilgrims reach Haridwar to bathe in the Ganga river, said State Director General of Police BS Sidhu. The candidates who appeared in the examination can check the results on police department’s website www.uttarakhandpolice.uk.gov.in.

Head constable Pradeep Kumar Bhatt posted in Pauri Garhwal secured first position in the ranker's examination scoring 359 out of 400 marks followed by head constables- Satendra Singh Chauhan and Jeevan Singh Chufal with 350 and 348 marks respectively. Five candidates- Mohan Chandra Bhatt, Amit Kumar, Triveni Prasad, Pradeep Kumar and lakshmi Prasad Bijalwan scored the lowest- 305 marks, managing inclusion in the final selection list.

The DGP said that the police head quarters had submitted two results to the Uttarakhand high court wherein the first list was of the results of candidates from civil police, CID and intelligence for remaining 25 posts while the other list was of candidates from IRB and PAC. The results of the 25 candidates have been kept on hold and their results will be declared after the high court permits it. Expressing satisfaction at declaration of results on Thursday, the DGP said that it had taken about two years to complete the recruitment process through ranker's examination for the promotion of constables and head constables. As many as 58 writs were filed by petitioner policemen in the High Court.

In one of the writ, this issue had been pending before the court as some senior constables and head constables had filed an affidavit, stating that the police department had not followed the traditional approach for promoting senior cops to posts of sub-inspectors. It should be mentioned here that the police department had conducted written test on March 1, 2014 while the physical test of the ranker’s examination was held on September 28 last year. A total of 2,290 out of total 9192 candidates, who had appeared in the written test, undertook the physical test.
