In view of the presidential election slated for July 17, the State BJP legislature party meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Saturday evening.

During the meeting, the State party top brass exhorted the saffron MlAs to lend full support to Ramnath Kovind picked up by the Prime Minister Narnedra Modi.

They dwelt on the significance of the party’s top leadership having  selected Kovind for the highest post of the country.   However, the party insiders say that whip might be issued to the party lawmakers to vote for Kovind later in the meeting. The meeting was going on during the time of filing this report. Notably, the ruling party 58 MlAs aside from two independent MlAs - Madan Singh Kaida and Preetam Singh Panwar- who are now with the saffron camp.

For the Presidential election, the MPs and the MlAs  would cast their votes  either in the State Assemblies or  the Parliament. Interestingly, a legislator  from Bihar  is likely to cast his vote in Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha during the July 17 Presidential election.
