Tightening noose around Baba Ramdev and his company allegedly engaged in manufacturing ‘miracle Ayurvedic drugs’, the Harish Rawat government in Uttarakhand is all set to lodge FIR against the Yoga Guru and his company Divya Pharmacy. It is learnt that Drug & Cosmetic Act and PNDT Act would be invoked against him. However, presently, things are being kept in secrecy with the officials remaining tight-lipped.
Notably, the State government’s action would be follow-up on the Parliamentary Assurance Committee’s instruction to them to conduct inquiry into Divya Putrajeevak Beej, an item manufactured by Divya Pharmacy that allegedly claimed to ensure male children to the expecting mothers.
It would be pertinent to mention here that when Patanjali had launched the medicine it drew flak from several quarters. Even the matter rocked the Parliament, resulting in it being referred to the Parliamentary Assurance Committee by the Centre. The Narendra Modi government assured the House that the charge would be thoroughly probed into. later, the committee asked the Uttarakhand government to conduct inquiry into it and if the drug was found fake, to lodge FIR against the accused.
Acting on the direction, Uttarakhand government had constituted a committee to examine the controversial Putrajeevak Beej. The three member committee led by Drug controller Ayush PD Chamoli and two others from Drug licensing Authority and Assistant Drug licensing Authority started the probe.
After receiving the report submitted by it, the State government referred the matter to Director General Medical and Health for further investigation during which the health department is supposed to have found that the claim was bereft of any medical foundation. later, the matter was referred to the legal department.
Finally, the matter being presented before the Chief Minister Harish Rawat, the CM has given the nod to the Ayush department to lodge FIR against the accused as per the law.
However, when the controversy had cropped up Baba Ramdev rejected the allegation outright, saying that the medicine under question merely helps better fertility in the women instead of helping them beget male children. He dubbed such charges tagged to him and his company as "false and misleading" meant to denigrate him in the public eye.
