State Govt unaware of ground realities: BJP

Published on:

Former State BJP president and MlA from Pithoragarh’s Didihat Assembly constituency Bishan Singh Chufal, has accused the Congress-led State Government of being unaware of ground realities that the people in disaster-hit areas are facing, alleging that the State Government is busy in conducing only aerial survey in such areas.

It is totally unaware of the ground realities what the beleaguered people are facing on the ground. Had the State Government been serious the situation could not have gone out of control. There is no relief reaching out to the victims in disaster-affected areas in Pithoragarh.

And surprisingly, the State Government is still unaware about total number of people remaining stranded in disaster-hit areas and about their conditions, he alleged.

During his Kumaon visit here on Tuesday, Chufal stated that he had been in different natural calamity affected areas of Pithoragarh since June 18. But the State Government has totally failed to provide the relief materials to these victims.

The State Government’s only contention is that being poor visibility relief materials can’t be dropped. But the matter of fact is that even if the weather conditions are better, dropping of relief materials from the helicopter won’t be helpful in tough and hilly terrain of Pithoragarh’s Munsyari, Dharchula and several other villages which have badly been ravaged by the cloudbursts and rivers’ fury.

Keeping in view the situation, the Government must concentrate on restoring the road connectivity. Once the surface transportation is improved, even the horses or labourers can be hired to transport relief materials in disaster-affected areas of the border district, Chufal added.

The matter of concerns is that roads and bridges connecting different parts of the border district, have been washed away in this nature’s fury. Thus, poor road connectivity has only marred the relief operations. In the face of this miserable conditions, aerial survey of the leaders won’t come in handy to help the needy people on the ground.
