The Congress had earlier decided to provide proactive support to the Bharatiya Janata Party State Government during its first six months in office. However, it has become necessary to oppose the type of “anti-public” works the State Government is indulging in, said the Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh.
Accusing the State Government of trying to cover up the scam in widening of National Highway 74 in Udham Singh Nagar district, the PCC president said this is a serious case involving loot of public money. Some politicians and officials have filled their own pockets and the government wants to shield them. lambasting the state government for the state of arrangements for the Char Dham Yatra, Singh said that the current government is unable to even properly maintain the Char Dham related works undertaken by the previous state government led by the Congress. He said, “The developmental works undertaken in a short time by the Congress-led State Government had elicited praise even from senior BJP leaders. However, at present the state government has completely failed to make proper arrangements for traffic, medical services, potable water supply and food stuffs.” The PCC president also thanked all the party leaders and workers for undertaking the state-wide protest against the BJP Government recently.
Further lambasting the government for failing to control price rise, Singh said that the cooking gas cylinder which used to cost about Rs 450 when the UPA Government’s term ended is now being sold for about Rs 800. Prices are at an all time high but the BJP government has done little more than misguide the citizens of India, he averred. “The Congress cannot sit idle now. None of the promises made by the BJP Governments in the Centre and State have been fulfilled in the past three years. The Congress will approach the people across the State and expose the truth of the BJP governments at the centre and State,” added Singh. He also expressed empathy for the bereaved family members of the farmers killed during a protest in Madhya Pradesh.
