Taking a lesson from June 2013 natural disaster, Uttarakhand Government has instructed all the district administrations to make adequate preparation to ensure that such calamity does not recur in any part of the State during the monsoon season.
The monsoon is likely to arrive in Uttarakhand in a couple of days, according to the weathermen. The Pauri district administration has received the same message and it is learnt to be alert with all its resources to take any challenge to be thrown up by monsoon head-on. It is ready to plunge into rescue and relief work aside from maintaining the roads by clearing them of landslide-triggered blocks and keeping uninterrupted water and power supply.
Pauri District Magistrate Chandra Shekhar Bhatt made it clear to all district level officers that no leave should be taken by the officers during the monsoon. He also asked them not to sanction leave to their subordinates without taking the DM into confidence. Besides, Bhatt has cancelled all the leaves of the officers and the employees with immediate effect.
Bhatt said that keeping in view the possibility of natural calamity striking the district during the rainy season, the district level officer has been made as in-charge under IRS to redress the problems to be spawned by the monsoon.
He stressed on utmost preparedness in view of the rains wreaking havoc to life and property in the district almost every year by way of heavy downpour, landslides, cloud burst and the like. No chance should be taken and nobody should lower guard as long as monsoon is there, he said.
