In the coming days, the people of Uttarakhand would see teachers of the Government-run schools sporting a particular attire. The State Government has decided to implement the dress code for the school teachers too. The State Government hopes that once the code is executed the teachers would get a new motivation. To give final shape to the dress code for the teachers, the education secretary Chandrashekhar Bhatt convened a meeting with the members of the principals’ and the teachers’ associations on Saturday. After the meeting was over, Bhatt said that those who attended the meeting concurred with the view of the State Government. He informed that the dress code is most likely to come into force after the summer vacation is over.
He further said that they would soon send their suggestion to the state government which on its part would issue the required government notification for the execution of the dress code.
Earlier, the state school education minister Arvind Pandey had stressed on formulating a dress code for the teachers following which the department had started the exercise of evolving the code.
It is learnt that during the meeting, though teachers agreed to follow the dress code they asked the department to act on several demands pending before the government. They said they have no inhibition to fall in line with the dress code regulations if their demands are accepted and acted upon.
With the State Government having made a provision for the teachers having their residences within the radius of eight kms from the school premises, the teachers demanded the government to provide them with accommodation when the schools are located in the remote areas. They also demanded the recently constituted grievance & redressal committee to be dissolved with immediate effect to pave way for the formation of a new committee in tune with their recommendation.
During the meeting, the department is learnt to have agreed to adopt a rational approach while identifying durgam and sugam (approachable and unapproachable) schools. Besides, the department agreed to give the benefits of earlier service to the lT teachers who have been promoted. This aside, the salaries of the adhoc teachers would be fixed with the department taking up the matter with the personnel and finance department. The meeting also reviewed matters related to the transfer of the teachers made during the last transfer year.
The teachers also demanded the department to fill 250 posts of the principals of the inter colleges which are now lying vacant following which the secretary assured that he would take up the matter with the higher authority.
The principals demanded the department to give those principals promotional benefits who have been working for a long time. They said they would readily agree to adopt the dress code if the department agrees to fulfil their long-pending demands.
