'State Govt avoiding CBI inquiry to protect guilty'

The State Government is attempting to avoid a CBI inquiry into the Nari Niketan inmate case to protect some persons but the BJP will not relent until the inquiry demanded is approved. The BJP State president Ajay Bhatt said this while speaking at a public rally in lalkuan on Thursday.

The BJP State chief lambasted the Congress-led State Government alleging that the it had not put Central funds to the intended use.

He said, “Since the Congress came to power in Uttarakhand, crime has been rising in the State with the government being surrounded by mafia active in mining, liquor and land sectors. The liquor policy drafted by the BJP was not altered by ND Tiwari, Vijay Bahuguna and BC Khanduri during their chief ministerial term. However, bowing to pressure from the liquor syndicate, the present government had altered the liquor policy amounting to about Rs100 crore revenue loss.”

Bhatt further alleged, “The Central Government had provided Rs6,766 crore financial assistance to Uttarakhand at the time of the Kedarnath disaster but the State Government had spent only about Rs5,237 crore out of this fund. The government has not yet ascertained where the remaining Rs1,500 crore was spent.”

The BJP State chief averred that the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister had announced Rs10,000 crore for improving the condition of roads in Uttarakhand, in addition to which the 13th finance commission budget has also been increased. He alleged that though the Centre had continued the special status period for Uttarakhand, the State Government is misinforming the people by accusing the Centre of not cooperating with the State.

The BJP will not relent until the Nari Niketan inmate case is referred for a CBI inquiry with a campaign to be organised by the party near the end of this month in support of the demand, he stressed.

Exhorting the BJP workers to start preparations for the Vidhan Sabha elections to be held in 2017, Bhatt said that they should go from house to house to raise awareness among the public regarding the corruption in the State Government.

The Khatima MlA Pushkar Singh Dhami, Kichha MlA Rajesh Shukla, party district head Pradeep Bisht, former MP Balraj Passi and other party office bearers were also present on the occasion.
