As directed by the Uttarakhand High Court, the State administration on Thursday appointed nodal officers in the districts and blocks to act on the complaints about the fees charged by the private schools of the State.

In a recent decision, the HC had directed the State Government to ensure that the private schools don’t coerce the parents to pay fees during the lockdown period and the schools should only charge tuition fee from the students. The tuition fee would be charged only when if they are conducting online classes. The HC gave this order on separate Public Interest Litigations (PILs) filed by of Dehradun resident Japinder Singh and Akash Yadav.

In an order released on Thursday, the education secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram said that Chief Education Officer (CEO) would be the nodal officer in the districts and the Block Education Officers (BEO) would be nodal officers in their respective blocks. He said that the nodal officers would act on the complaints against the schools that are violating fee guidelines as mentioned in the Government Order (GO) of May 2, 2020 and HC order dated May 12, 2020.
