The State Election Commission has issued a notice to Bharatiya Janata Party district unit for not taking prior permission from the returning officer of an election rally which was supposed to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
Official sources said the rally was to be held at Haridwar on February 10.
In the notice, which was issued by election duty officer, Jai Bharat Singh, it said though the BJP had taken permission for landing of a helicopter carrying the Prime Minister in Hardwar and also Rishikul Grounds being scheduled for the rally, the party had no care to seek permission for the rally itself.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Singh said, “No permission was taken from the returning officer for the rally which was addressed by the prime minister, an imperative in sync with the norms laid down by the election commission for the poll-bound state. We asked Rathore to explain whether they took the clearance from any other source.”
However, on the other side, sources in the BJP said that they had taken the permission for the prime minister's rally at the state level.
