State contributes 60 Gentlemen

Uttarakhand is one of the smaller States of the country but when it comes to contributing to the national security, the people of the State are at the forefront. The Himalayan State would contribute 60 Gentlemen cadets out of total 616 GCs who would pass out from the portals of Indian Military Academy (IMA) on Saturday.

The number of GCs from Uttarakhand is the third highest after Uttar Pradesh and Haryana in Passing Out Parade (POP) of 136 regular, 119 Technical course and 23 University Entry Scheme (UES).  The IMA data reveal that 100 GC belong to Uttar Pradesh while 64 GC are from another small state Haryana. After Uttarakhand which has 60 GCs Bihar is at fourth place with 51 GCs. Interestingly the biggest States in terms of areas, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh contribute 48 and 31 GC in this year’s spring term POP.

The people of a developed and bigger State like Gujarat are not very much inclined to join the armed forces as the IMA data reveals that this year only five GC from this state would pass out from IMA. The States of Chattisgarh and Jharkhand which were created along with Uttarakhand in the year 2000 also has less representation with only 01 and 07 GC this time, despite being much bigger in area and population than Uttarakhand. Seventy one GC from friendly nations would also pass out from IMA on Saturday. The maximum number of foreign cadets would be from Afghanistan with strength of 44 cadets.
