A considerable number of Congress party office-bearers and farmer leaders along with party workers from Uttarakhand will be participating in the Kisan rally slated to be held in New Delhi on October 6 on the direction of Congress national vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesman Mathuradatt Joshi informed that the PCC chief Kishore Upadhyay will be leading party office-bearers and Congress workers in large numbers from Uttarakhand will be attending the concluding programme of the Kisan rally in New Delhi on October 6.

Party members headed by Upadhyay are also slated to submit a memorandum regarding various issues pertaining to farmers and the Uttarakhand State to their party national vice-president Rahul Gandhi on the occasion.

Joshi further informed that the memorandum to be submitted by the PCC chief to the party vice-president raises varied issues while also reiterating complete support of Congress workers in Uttarakhand for the efforts being pursued by Rahul Gandhi regarding various aspects including the interests of the farmers, economically poor and backward members of society.

“It is due to the efforts continued by party president Sonia Gandhi and the Congress vice-president that for the first time in recent history farmers were provided a loan waiver amounting to `70,000 crore. This brought much relief and happiness to thousands of farmers but the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union Government has started denting the interests of farmers,” avers the PCC chief in the memoramdum to be submitted to the Congress vice-president.

The PCC memorandum also elicits attention to some issues specific to Uttarakhand like the payment of `164 crore due to sugar cane farmers which was approved by the previous UPA-led Union Government but purportedly thwarted by the BJP-led Union Government which has not yet completed this task.
