The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Uttarakhand State Council plans to organise its sixth environment summit with focus on sustainable manufacturing at Rudrapur on Thursday. The theme of the summit is the protection of environment and enhancement of competitiveness through technology and innovation.
The summit will have focused sessions on best practices in implementing green manufacturing, advanced manufacturing technology, protecting the environment, enhancing productivity, efficiency and innovation. An exclusive session on zero defect manufacturing with Maruti Suzuki India limited executive adviser MM Singh is also slated to be held in the summit.
According to the event organisers, since its formation Uttarakhand has clocked one of the highest economic growth rates in the country with industry playing an important role. While going forward it is also important to sustain the growth rates achieved in the recent past. There is evidence of slowdown in industrial growth over the past few years, and measures need to be taken to address the situation. The overall theme for these measures has to be how to make manufacturing industry in Uttarakhand globally competitive and sustainable.
Uttarakhand is an ecologically fragile region which implies that the traditional development models of most of the present day economies may not be appropriate for the State. To maintain environmental and economic growth in the state, manufacturing sector needs to match pace in today’s globalised and highly competitive world.
