State bus union warns Cong against MlP-PPY

The Uttarakhand stage carriage bus union has warned that it will boycott the political rallies of Congress party in protest against the State Government’s decision to bring such changes in transport policy which are outside its purview.

The State president of the union, Kunwar Singh Rawat told mediapersons here on Friday that the State Government has recently launched a ‘Mukhyamantri lok Pariwahan- Paryatan Protsahan Yojna (MlP- PPY), by which it is planning to issue permits to contract a vehicle which is outside its power.

He said that the State Government can do such a thing only when the Union Government brings amendment under section 103 of Motor Vehicle act. Rawat said that the State Government has also declared that it will issue a notification to limit the number of vehicles in cities having population of five lakh which is also illegal without the approval of Union Government.

The President of Dehradun city bus association Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal said that the State Government is planning to provide permits to small vehicles on the mountainous routes which would increase pollution in these areas. “One bus on mountainous terrains can easily ferry six times more passengers than small vehicles. The increase of small vehicles on these routes would increase the problem of pollution,’’ he said.

The members of the union alleged that senior officers of transport department are misleading the Chief Minister and Transport Minister on the issue.
