'State BJP leadership has issued gag order on five party MPs'

Chief minister Harish Rawat’s media adviser Surendra Kumar has alleged that the BJP State leadership has passed a gag order on the five BJP MPs from Uttarakhand. Kumar has requested the BJP leadership to withdraw any such order in order to enable the State’s BJP MPs to raise important State issues. He also rejected the allegation made by leader of opposition regarding anomalies in promotion of police sub inspectors, stressing that there was no truth in the allegation.

Addressing the media here on Monday, Kumar said that BJP MP from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency, Bhagat Singh Koshyari had spoken in the lok Sabha on the issue of `2,500 crore loss to Uttarakhand due to change in funding pattern and cuts in Central scheme assistance.

However, it appears as if he was suddenly silenced by his party after he raised this issue in Parliament. I request the BJP leadership to allow its MPs to raise important issues of the State as the gag order on them is detrimental to the interests of the State,” he said.

Referring to the BJP State president Tirath Singh Rawat and leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Ajay Bhatt, Kumar said that the duo should at least read the budget speech made by Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley earlier this year on February 28 which mentions the change in funding pattern and withdrawal of the Centre from some projects which has cost a loss of about `2,500 crore to the State.

He further said, “I request the BJP State chief and leader of opposition to accept the friendship request I sent them on social media so that they may at least be more aware of facts regarding various issues before making allegations. I believe that both the party in power and the opposition are equally important and we feel bad when the BJP leaders make baseless allegations which cause embarrassment to them.

Bhatt’s allegations regarding the process of promoting police sub inspectors being corrupted is totally untrue as the procedure followed by successive State Governments in the past is being continued as it was.

The procedure drafted for promotion of sub-inspectors in 2003-04 is being followed at present,” he said.
