The Association of Anganwadi workers of Uttarakhand has threatened to intensify its agitation if its demands are not accepted by the government.
The members of the association are camping at the protest site in support of their demands from last 34 days.
The General Secretary of the association, Sumati Thapliyal told The Pioneer that it appears that the state and union governments are paying no heed to the demands of the Anganwadi workers. She warned that this attitude of government would prove costly to it. Thapliyal that the Anganwadi workers from all over the country are planning to organise a massive demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against Ghandi.
The union minister had recently termed the Anganwadi workers as non contractual workers thereby earning the ire of lakhs of such workers in different parts of the country. These workers are demanding that their remuneration should be increased from present Rs 5,500 per month to Rs 15,000.
The Anganwadi workers are also demanding status and facilities like that of state government employees. The other demand of these workers is that the hundred percent promotion of Anganwadi workers should be made on the post of Chief Matron.
