Facing rebuke for failing to get recognition of National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) for Special Basic Training Certificate (BTC) course and thus putting question mark over the eligibility of more than 14,000 primary teachers, the State administration has requested the NCTE to give its consent to the Special BTC course.  In a letter directed to the Regional Director, Northern Region of NCTE, Jaipur Rajasthan, the Secretary School education Chandra Shekhar Bhatt said that the Bed/ BPEd, CPEd, DPEd qualified candidates were given a six month long Special BTC course in many District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET) in  anticipation of recognition by the NCTE. He said that after completion of the course a test was taken by the Uttarakhand board Ramnagar and all necessary norms were followed in the examination and declaration of the results. The letter further mentioned that the candidates after the year 2012 also hold the Teacher Eligibly Test (TET) qualifications. Bhatt said that these teachers should be exempted from the compulsion of the Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) course and one time relaxation to them should be imparted to them. The state administration has also requested the regulator to approve the Special BTC. If the NCTE refuses to accept the State Government’s request than these 13,000 teachers would have no option but to register for the bridge course of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
