In elections for the position of President District Panchayat the personal interests and pride of big political leaders of both Congress and BJP is at stake. The Congress heavyweight and Cabinet Minister Harak Singh Rawat has his hands full as in three districts his relatives or protégés are sure to throw their hats in these elections. In Pauri district Harak Singh Rawat’s wife Dipti Rawat is all set to lock horns with Himani Negi, wife of BJP leader and former District Panchayat President Kesar Singh Negi. In Tehri Garhwal his close aide Beena Sajwan would contest against Sona Sajwan niece of senior BJP leader Matbar Singh Kandari. Interestingly, wives of both Kandari and Harak Singh are real sisters. In Rudraprayag again Harak Singh Rawat’s protégé laxmi Rana is expected to enter the fray. In Dehradun Chaman Singh, brother of senior Congress leader and Cabinet Minister Pritam Singh is expected to be the Congress candidate.
BJP here is supposed to again throw its weight behind Madhu Chauhan the Former district Panchayat President and wife of senior BJP leader Munna Singh Chauhan.In Pithoragarh wife of Congress leader and former MlA Harish Dhammi is expected to be the Congress candidate.
