To educate the people about the cyber crime assuming alarming proportions  across the  state and about how they can protect themselves from the fraudsters, out  to swindle them of their hard-earned money,  SSP special task force (STF), Uttarakand organised a workshop in Basant Vihar police station on Friday evening. Those running the workshop    apprised the people gathered there of the details as to how they fall prey to the   cyber crimes or how they commit such crimes unintentionally.  Aside from the locals, circle officer city-1 was among the police  officers present. The locals asked the police officers questions about different  aspects of the crime which the police officers  present  replied in details to clear confusion lurking in the minds of the people about the crime that is a new phenomenon for the state.

Cyber crime police station inspector Ashok Kumar Tyagi explained the nature of the  cyber crimes in details. Sub inspector Ved Prakash Uniyal   explained how the people could keep cyber crimes at bay while operating  social sites, including facebook and twitter. He said that a few tips rightly followed  could help them against being enmeshed in the cyber crime nets, cleverly laid out  by the fraudsters.

“The cyber act being in force, committing cyber  crimes is  a punishable offence. One inadvertently involved in it would have to prove his  innocence later.

But he  would have to face the  music till he is exonerated from the crime in accordance with the provisions of the law. So one had better keep himself out of the vicious vortex of the  cyber  crime,” he said.

Sub- inspector Marut Shah explained to those gathered  at the workshop as to how  they could protect themselves  from the  frauds involving the banks they have accounts in and the  ATMs they avail.

“One should be on guard against disclosing details  of  mobile banking to any person, no matter whether he is a stranger  or one known to him. If one refrains from sharing such details he is somehow safe from the  clutches of the  fraudsters waiting for a slip on his part  to dupe him of  his hard-earned money,” he said.

SI Bharat Shah cautioned  them against being trapped in the  online frauds that allure them in the name of lucrative lottery offers, job offers and insurance offers.
