The Swami Rama Tirtha Mission has stepped up preparations for commemoration of Rama Divas across the nation on the occasion of Diwali. Addressing the media, Hariom of the mission, said that there is a strong link between the Swami and the festival of Diwali as Rama Tirtha was born on, took sanyas on and left the world on this day. Celebrating this connection, the mission commemorates Ram Diwas on the occasion of Diwali every year.

Programmes will be organised in various schools and colleges to mark the occasion. These programmes will include quiz and painting competitions among other activities, he added.

Swami Rama Tirtha got spiritual inspiration in the Tehri area and also gave up his body. A plan is being prepared to carry ahead his works in Tehri, added Hariom.

Born in 1873, Rama Tirtha later worked as a professor of mathematics in the lahore Foreman Christian College for two years apart from acting as a reader in the lahore Oriental College for a brief period.

After taking sanyas in 1900, he later went to America, Japan, Egypt and other places inspiring people with his talks on the Vedant. He gave up his body in the Ganga in Uttarakhand on October 17, 1906, when he was only 33-year-old.
