The municipal trenching ground near Sahastradhara Road could be used for constructing the sports village for the national games proposed to be hosted by Uttarakhand in 2018. However, since the work of shifting the trenching ground from here to the new site at Shishambada is facing procedural delay, the feasibility of constructing the sports village on time here remains to be ascertained.
Recently, the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) vice chairman R Meenakshi Sundaram, MDDA secretary Banshidhar Tiwari, Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) at the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun, Harak Singh Rawat and officials of the Sports department inspected the trenching ground as a potential site for construction of the sports village for the 2018 national games. The national games proposed to be hosted by Uttarakhand in 2018 will be held in stadiums being constructed in Haldwani and Dehradun.
The municipal trenching ground near Sahastradhara Road covers about 12 acre area and is not far from the site of the stadium. Officials believe that adequate number of units can be constructed here for the sports college and later on these units can be sold for residential purpose. The officials will submit their inspection report to the State Government and the government will take a decision on this. However, construction of the sports village on time would be possible only if the trenching ground is shifted on time.
As part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) the MCD is to build a waste treatment plant and trenching ground at Shishambada. However, the tendering to be undertaken for construction of this plant is pending due to clearance from the State administration. Only if the procedural delays are resolved on time to ensure construction of this plant and shifting of the trenching ground to Shishambada, can the authorities expect to construct the sports village here on time.
