Strongly advocating the open trial method for fair selection, the State education and Sports Minister Arvind Pandey has opposed the selection procedure adopted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for selection of Uttarakhand team for Vijay Hazare Trophy matches.
He said that all eligible players should be provided with equal opportunities to be part of the State team. “We are providing every kind of support to the BCCI for uplift of cricket in the Uttarakhand, but partiality of any kind would not be tolerated.
We have not taken so much pains to see that the players not belonging to the state and handful of players from some plain district get chance to play but to ensure that players from all parts of the mountainous state get equal opportunity. Our only purpose is to provide platform to the talented players,’’ he said.
The Minister assured that no illegal activity would be allowed and injustice to the talented players would not be brooked.
The BCCI has directed the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand and Uttaranchal Cricket Association to shortlist players for the team of Uttarakhand for Vijay Hazare Trophy slated from September 20.
In the absence of enough preparation time, these associations have selected some players based on their past performance for the team.
The process of selection of the team is facing opposition from many quarters and they are insisting that process of open trial should be adopted for the team selection.
