Sports college mulls raising height of boundary walls

Maharana Pratap Sports College, Raipur (Dehradun) seems to have imbibed no lesson from an incident which had occurred in 2012 wherein eight students of this college were seriously injured when a live bomb (mortar cell) which was brought from Army Firing Range, Maldevta, Raipur, accidentally exploded in the college premises.

The boundary walls of the Maharana Pratap Sports College being low in height, the students can easily move out without complying with the norms of seeking permission from the college administration. Speaking of the matter, the college principal Manoj Sharma said, "Due to the boundary walls being low, some students have made it a habit to scale them to move out of the college campus without going through the norms of seeking permission from the hostel superintendent. We are considering to send a proposal to the State Government for raising the height of the boundary walls of the college."

Notably, the student who had complained to the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat about poor quality of food being severed to the college students was beaten by the college principal Manoj Sharma on Monday because he had gone out of the college campus without seeking permission from the hostel superintendent. Though the district administration has deployed home guards at the college gate it has failed to prove a deterrent to the students breaking norms at their own sweet will.

The college principal Sharma said that the student (allegedly thrashed by him) was one of the eight students who were injured when a live bomb exploded in the college campus. It may be recalled that the eight students had gone to the Army Firing Range, Maldevta, after scaling the boundary walls and brought live bomb from there which later exploded in the campus in 2012. Out of the eight students, one named Sagar had been injured seriously in the blast. The State Government had given around Rs 17 lakh to Sagar for his treatment.
