SPIC MACAY Dehradun conducted a series of concerts by Rama Vaidyanathan at the Selaqui International School, Mussoorie Girls Inter College and the lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration.
A much sought-after Bharatanatyam dancer, Rama introduced her art form in a sanctified manner by re-creating the vibes in the space given to her and brought students closer to their cultural heritage
The children saw her perform Adi Shankara's compositionArdhanareeshwarashtakam composed 2000 years ago ,yet subtly conveying gender equality or the harmonious union of female and male principles for the sustenance of the universe.
She showed yet another expression packed number in which a beautiful maiden tactfully controls the distractions of lord Krishna by snatching away his flute. This was a composition of Purandaradasa, a saint composer of Karnataka. She concluded her recital with Tillana, known for precision in technicalities and rhythm in a stylised manner by creating geometry in space.
She was accompanied by Venkateswaran on vocals and Siyakumar on nattuvangam. According to Rama, "It was an amazing experience to perform at the Govt Inter college (where they had to walk up the mountain) and soon after at the IAS Academy in Mussoorie. The students of both the institutions were contrasting rays of hope for our country "she said.
