Following the directive of the State Election Commission, a special voter enrolment camp was held at all the polling stations in Dehradun on Sunday to issue elector’s photo identity card (EPIC) for newly-enrolled voters.
Those whose names are missing or not registered can enrol between March 10 and 12 ahead of the 2014 parliamentary elections, said Dehradun election officer BVRC Purushottam and informed that to enrol as a voter, applicants will have to submit residential and age proof documents along with a passport size photograph.
He further said that all eligible voters can verify their names on the rolls or apply for enrolment, if not registered, at their respective polling stations. Voting in Uttarakhand will be held on May 7. All the booth level officers (BlOs) were directed to ensure that they were available between 10 am and 5 pm on said dates at their respective assigned polling booths in the district.
He further said, “As per the ECI directives, special camps are being organised between March 10 and 12 at all the polling stations where booth level officers will be available with a copy of electoral roll displayed on the notice board and requisite number of form 6 (for voter registration). The form is also available on state election commission’s website.”
Purushottam warned that action under the Representation of the People Act will be taken against BlOs found absent or negligent towards their duty. He said that he had set up a committee headed by SDM lalit Narayan Mishra to conduct inquiry against Prem Singh, registrar Kanungo who was accused of negligence on duty by the officials and committee has been directed to submit its report within 15 days. DEO issued show cause notices to some BlOs who were found negligent on their duty, he added.
