As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to disseminate awareness about the personality and actions of Sikh Guru Gobind Singh, the Nanakmatta Sahib Gurudwara in Udham Singh Nagar district has been chosen  for a special programme to be held in the coming month.

On Monday, the Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate Neeraj Khairwal with officials also attended by the Nanakmatta MlA Prem Singh Rana and Rudrapur MlA Rajkumar Thukral. The District Magistrate said that on the directions of the State Government, a special programme based on the life of Guru Gobind Singh will be organised at the Nanakmatta Gurudwara premises in the district on February 15. The theme of this special programme will be ‘Sarva Dharma Sama Bhav’ (religious harmony). Along with members of the Sikh community, the followers of various religions and members of other communities will also be participating in this event. He said that various means will be used to publicise the event so as to maximise the number of people attending the programme. He directed officials of the Public Works Department to ensure that all roads leading to Nankmatta Sahib are repaired on time to prevent any inconvenience to visitors. Departmental officials concerned were directed to ensure uninterrupted supply of potable water and electricity. He also asked the district’s Senior Superintendent of police Sadanand Date to ensure deployment of adequate police force around the programme venue.

The Nanakmatta MlA Prem Singh Rana said that the Sikh Guru Gobind Singh, born on December 22, 1666 had shown the path of sacrifice and righteousness to society. Considering this, the programme to be held at Nanakmatta is an appreciable initiative to disseminate his message especially among the younger generation.

Such programmes are being held across the nation on the directions of the Prime Minister. A similar programme was held during December last year at Patna Sahib, he added.

The Rudrapur MlA Rajkumar Thukral appreciated the state government for planning to organise the special programme.

He opined that this programme will provide a glimpse of religious harmony while also publicising the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh among the general masses.
