Uttarakhand BJP president Tirath Singh Rawat alleged on Thursday that the Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal has been running the Vidhan Sabha as a sectarian Congress worker.
“Unable to rise above his political association, he is degrading the dignity of the chair he is holding. He should quit as he has failed to protect the dignity of the MlAs,” he said while demanding the State Government to release the video of the House proceeding to pinpoint responsibility for the ruckus that ended in the abrupt adjournment of the House on Tuesday. “The ruling party behaved as if theirs is a party of goons who are hell-bent on trampling upon the democratic norms to bulldoze dissent,” he said.
He further alleged that the State Government had squandered away the hard-earned public funds on the second session of the Assembly at Gairsain. “What was the need of the expensive farce when the supplementary budget could have been passed in DehradunIJ” the State BJP chief asked, adding that the session had proved to be a picnic for the ruling party members.
Taking a dig at the ruling party, he said they had drawn a plan beforehand to have the special session fizzle out in two days. “It is clear from the fact that they refrained from declaring the minutes of the four proposed days of the Assembly session in course of the Business Advisory committee (BAC) meeting. By presenting supplementary budget on the first day, they had revealed their hands that they wanted the session to wrap up the next day,” he added.
“Unlike the BJP’s stance vis-à-vis the issue of Gairsain becoming the permanent capital of the State which is crystal clear, the ruling party remains ambivalent,” he said.
Referring to the reconstruction of Kedarnath, he said the claim rings hollow with skeletal remains of many of the 2013 deluge victims remaining trapped within the debris.
