SP women activists stage protest at Collectorate

Demanding high level inquiry into the alleged rape and abortion of a physically challenged  inmate of Nari Niketan and death of two inmates of the same shelter home at Doon Hospital, scores of Samajwadi Party women activists staged a protest at the Collectorate in Dehradun on Thursday.

SP members led by its women district president Meena Rana assembled at their party office and rallied till Collectorate while shouting anti-government slogans. Rana alleged that the State government is hell- bent on  covering up the case to shield  the real culprits involved in it.

Rana warned that they will intensify their protest if the demand of a high level inquiry is not met.

Anita, another SP leader, said that the incident was highly condemnable as it dented into the image of the State. “Besides, the two deaths of the inmates due to mal- nutrition have laid bare the sad fact that the  State government had not cared in the least for their well-being. Even the basic  amenities are out of bounds for them. This amounts to heaping humiliation on the women of the State,” she added.
