SP to field 51 candidates in Vidhan Sabha polls

Determined to make a mark in the upcoming Assembly election in Uttarakhand, Samajwadi Party (SP) is all set to field 51 candidates in the 70-member Vidhan Sabha, said the state SP president Dr Satyanarayan Sachan on Thursday. CPI and CPI (M) are likely to contest the rest of the seats in alliance with SP, he added. Sachan said, “Our party is united to dent into the duopoly of Congress and BJP. Communists with us, we would go all-out to make our presence felt in this election.”

He further said that they had made elaborate arrangements to win seats. “Party members have been appointed as constituency in-charges. They have been raising public issues from time to time,” he said.

On the alliance with the two major Communist parties, he said that things were in the final shape. “Soon the alliance would be officially announced. After the deal is struck we would announce the names of the candidates,” he added.

Sachan said that a meeting would be held in Udham Singh Nagar in Kumaon region with senior party leaders in attendance soon to take a call on the probable candidates.

“However, the final call would be taken by Shivpal Yadav who is also Uttarakhand SP in-charge in consultation with the SP patriarch Mulyam Singh Yadav.  Yadav has already formed a six- member committee to monitor election here,” he said, adding that names for around 20 constituencies are expected to be released in the last week of December.
