SP to contest in all 5 parliamentary constituencies in Uttarakhand

Good performance in recently concluded local body elections in Uttarakhand and a seat in Karnataka Assembly polls has given much needed panacea to the Samajwadi Party (SP) that is quite eager to spread out of Uttar Pradesh. Buoyed by the good performance, as defined by the party leaders often, the SP will field its candidates for all five parliamentary constituencies in Uttarakhand.

The SP leadership has a reason to smile since the party treaded fairly well in the local body polls. The party that could not secure six per cent voters in the Assembly polls boasts of having 12 councillors in different local bodies. It has two SP supported town area chairmen and a SP town area chairman. SP supported candidate won as mayor in Roorkie first time.

Meantime, the party grabbed a seat in Karnataka Assembly polls. Going by one and one makes eleven, the party is planning an intensive propagation of good performance in Karnataka and Uttarakhand among the voters in order to come out with good colours in mission 2014.

Even senior leaders observe that the party’s victory in Bangalore has its long lasting effect. “It matters a lot for the party since it implies that the party may now think of fielding candidates in southern states during general elections,” Dr Satyanarayan Sachan said.

“As far Uttarakhand is concerned, good show in local body polls is an apparent indication of SP’s growing popularity among the people,” Sachan added.

If party sources are to be believed, the show has not only infused strength in the party workers but also amplified interest of senior leaders in Uttarakhand unit since they see good possibilities.

Dr Sachan says, “Good show in the local body polls came as a much needed relief to the party as it has infused fresh strength in the party workers. This strength will boost up party’s performance. The show gains importance since it rejuvenated the party in the state from bottom to top.”

Presently, the national leadership perceives that party’s position has strengthened. It is paying much attention to the state.  SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav asked state unit president of the party Dr Satyanarayan Sachan to prepare a panel for the general election likely next year. He also asked the Dr Sachan to give a panel of probable candidates those can do well in the polls.

State unit has suggested the names of the candidates from the five parliamentary constituencies, including Pauri, Nainital, Haridwar, Tehri and Almora, to national leadership. The leadership perceives that it can tread well in General Election likely next year. The party wants to field candidates after doing all calculations to materialize its plan.
