Samajwadi Party will field its candidates from three out of five lok Sabha constituencies in Uttarakhand, said the party State president Satyanarayan Sachan on Sunday and announced that the party will support the candidates fielded by Communist Party of India (CPI), CPI (Marxist) from Pauri and Tehri seats.
Sachan said that SP would align with CPI, CPI (M), Janata Dal (United) and others in Uttarakhand on the principle of alignment of 11 parties including JDU, SP, AIADMK, left parties and others at national-level wherein these parties got together to prevent Congress-led UPA and BJP from coming to power by presenting themselves as an alternative. He further said, “We are not informed by senior party leaders or former Chief Minister ND Tiwari on whether he would contest the election on SP ticket from Nainital lok Sabha seat. If he wishes then he can contest election from any parliamentary constituency in the State on SP ticket,” he added.
Sachan said that the party had already declared its candidates’ for three State parliamentary — Avtar Singh from Nainital parliamentary constituency, Bhagwati Prasad from Almora and Azmal Shahnawaz from Haridwar seat. If party reached alignment with CPI, CPI (M) and others, it won’t field its candidate from Pauri lok Sabha seat. Earlier, the party had declared Kuldeep Rawat as its candidate from Pauri lok Sabha seat, he added.
The CPI and CPI (M) declared their candidates from Pauri and Tehri lok Sabha seats on Friday. Narendra Singh Negi will contest election on CPI ticket from Pauri while CPI (M) will field Shiv Prasad Devli from Tehri seat.
