In support of 15-point demands, dozens of Samajwadi Party activists rallied from Parade Ground to the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun where they staged a demonstration. The protesters submitted a memorandum highlighting their 15-point demands to the town commissioner on Wednesday.
The SP activists led by its State president Satyanarayan Sachan assembled at the party office and rallied passing through various roads to MCD while shouting slogans against the municipal administration. Sachan alleged that municipal officers are negligent towards their works which had resulted in poor sanitation across the city. People’s concerns are not being addressed on time.
The State capital is suffering from lack of proper sanitation though considerable amount of funds have been spent in the name of facilitating sanitation, he said, accusing the officials of corruption. The proposals submitted to MCD by local public representatives regarding the regularisation of slum areas should be forwarded to Ministry of Urban Development and CM. Sanitation workers should be regularised in each ward and technology should be used for enhancing their working capacity. The issues highlighted by protesters in memorandum include need for maintaining quality in road construction, organising a camp for distribution of old age/widow pension on monthly basis and for this, a letter should be sent to the officers concerned.
Household garbage is not being picked up the sanitation workers on a daily basis in various localities and a proper system should be developed for disposal of garbage from each household, demanded the protesters.
