With the increasing number of fire incidents, the fire department has issued guidelines for the people of the State. In most of the cases, fires occur due to negligence. People should be extra cautious while using fire, said Dehradun fire station officer SP Mamgai. Fire can cause major disaster and loss of lives in buildings unless fire safety norms are strictly adhered to, added Mamgai.
Statistics reveal that in most of the fire incidents in multiplexes, commercial buildings and houses, fire erupted due to shot- circuits, he said, adding that one should change electricity wires from time to time in their buildings.
Apart from this, they should employee experienced electricians to conduct proper checking of electricity wires in their establishments, he stated.
Fire also occurs due to negligence like throwing cigarette butts and throwing ashes at open places after cooking and others, he said. Those who cook food by burning woods should be extra cautious, he warned. He also said that the children should not be given match boxes. People should be on their guard regarding what their children do.
In multiplexes or commercial establishments, the owners should apply to the Fire Department for seeking no- objection- certificates (NOC). They should set up effective fire fighting equipments too apart from which they should employ one trained person to work in emergency situation there.
“Please follow safety rules and contribute to society by saving lives of your family and neighbours. If you discover a fire hazard you may report to Fire Control Room or call Toll Free line 101 and 100”, said Mamgai.
He said that on Sunday, the fire department had received as many as 32 phone calls and three major fire incidents had occurred.
With the deployment of fire tenders in adequate numbers, fire was put out before it could spread, he said. No casualty had been reported thanks to firemen swinging into action at the right time, he added.
