Top notch of the Samajwadi Party (SP) will have a brainstorming session to find out a formula to ensure victory on at least two seats, where Muslim voters are in decisive position, in the hilly State during two-day long national executive, advanced to September 11-12, at Haridwar from September 17.

Though the party leaders claim that there is no special reason behind holding the meeting at Haridwar, even venue selection has been made after thorough exercise and calculations which would set new equation in politics at national platform. According to the sources, the party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav will meet Hindu spiritual leaders and Muslim clerics during or after the meeting.

He will also meet Sikh dharma gurus as well as Christian spiritual leader. This is an effort by the SP to strengthen its secular image further. Uttarakhand Samajwadi Party president Prof Satya Narayan Sachan confirmed it. “Mulayam Singh will meet spiritual leaders of different religions.  He will meet Sadhus and Muslim clerics. Apart from it, he would also meet Sikh dharma gurus and Christian spiritual leaders,” Prof Sachan said.

Sachan said that meeting between the two might take place before or after the executive. Prof Sachan rebuffed any political reason behind the scheduled meeting between the religious leaders and the SP Chief. “As Mulayam Singh would be present in the executive meet, he would meet them. No need to read much between the lines,” Prof Sachan said.

He, however, accepted that the party would definitely discuss the strategy to ensure victory on some seats in the State.  “We have already started working in that direction. But after the executive meeting, scene would be completely clear and we would work in an intensive way,” Prof Sachan said. The party has done a thorough exercise before the meeting. The party has collected figure of total Muslim voters in the two parliamentary constituencies, including Haridwar and Nainital.  There are around 3.5 lakh Muslims in Haridwar followed by around 3 lakh Muslim voters in Nainital.

So, the party leaders, along with formulating the strategy for the general elections, would try to find out a formula that ensure victory to the party at these two seats where party feels that it could do well. Even Sachan accepts to the fact that the party can come out with good results. The executive meet would be attended by 53 executive members, 27 state presidents and 15 ex officio members.
